Lucia Celebration
The Lucia celebration marks the middle of the four weeks of advent and is also one of the darkest nights in Northern Europe. For each one of these nights the Swedes light up one candle and then Lucia is celebrated bringing even more light into the darkness of the winter.
Lucia was actually a saint from the Italian city of Siracusa and there are countless versions told of her story and how this tradition arrived in Sweden. Certain is that the tradition exists since the mid 19th century and that the first Lucia contest was promoted by a Swedish newspaper in 1928.
In 2018 Lucia will be celebrated in December 2nd at 18:00 with reverend Åsa Ström Broman. There will be a traditional procession of Lucia, a presentation by ourNordic Choir and traditional Christmas dishes.
